There is no upkeep for an army on crusade so it is basically free,not free to recruit mercenaries but still I,ve made a pretty good army with about 5k,the beauty about this game is to try to reproduce history,imo at least,that's why I'm playing Scotland and I never try to conquer eng I fight them off when they try to get me and after a while I ally with them and fight France and hre and so on I participate in all the crusades sometimes it is me that takes the city the I sef as long as I can the I loss it the the pope asks again and so on I mean if you start conquering and disobey the pope and do whatever you conquer the world,or not,but there is no fun like that I did it with Spain in vanilla m2tw now I play ss6.4 very hard camp and hard batty and I keep it straight with the pope with my allay it just makes more sense,for me at least more fun when someone gets too big and excommunicated we attack ,I do my allays do and we take him down all the cities I sack and then let them go rebel so the world just keeps going if you get half of Europe and exterminate factions.is just not fun anymore.just the way I see it try a campaign like that guys and see never use quick save ether I mean with assassins and stuff if my king dies it dies there is no going back is just so amazing like that honestly.
